On August 21, we in Middle Tennessee are in for one of nature's most impressive events: a total solar eclipse. Murfreesboro is almost in the exact center of the eclipse path, which begins at 10:46 am. The full eclipse begins 11:48 am, and totality occurs at 1:21 pm. This is the first total eclipse of the Sun visible from all 48 contiguous United States since 1979. The last time a total eclipse was visible from coast-to-coast was June 8, 1918. There will be a couple of second hours devoted to the eclipse, how to safely view it, and what causes it. Be sure to set aside time to view this quite impressive phenomenon; the next time a full solar eclipse in Murfreesboro is in approximately 500 + years.
